Paraguay midfielder  made World Cup history on Friday after becoming the first player to receive a red card under FIFA‍‍`s newly introduced rule prohibiting players from covering their mouths during on-field confrontations.

The incident occurred during Paraguay‍‍`s Group D match against Turkey in Santa Clara, California.

Almiron was shown a straight red card in first-half stoppage time following a VAR review.
Match officials determined that the former Newcastle United player covered his mouth while appearing to direct remarks toward Turkish defender  during a heated exchange between the two players.

Paraguay were leading 1-0 when the dismissal reduced them to ten men.

FIFA introduced the regulation earlier this year as part of a broader campaign to tackle discriminatory behaviour and improve transparency during player interactions on the field.

Under the new policy, players who conceal their mouths while addressing opponents, match officials or others during confrontations can face immediate disciplinary action, including a red card.

The rule was introduced following several high-profile incidents involving allegations of racist and abusive language in football.

FIFA President  has strongly defended the measure, arguing that players should have no reason to hide their words during exchanges on the pitch.

The World Cup marks the first major tournament where the regulation is being fully enforced, and Almiron‍‍`s dismissal is likely to become a landmark case as officials continue to apply the new standard.

The incident has already sparked discussion among players, coaches and analysts about the impact of the rule and how it may influence player behaviour during high-pressure matches.
